People ask us all the time: "What does Asante Sana mean?"
And we love that question. Because the answer is the whole story.
Asante Sana — Thank You Very Much
Asante Sana is a Swahili phrase that means "Thank you very much." It is one of the most warm, heartfelt expressions in the Swahili language — spoken across East Africa and recognised across the continent as a phrase full of genuine gratitude. The name is also my daughter's second name.
We chose this name because gratitude is not just a word to us. It is a way of being.
Why Gratitude?
When we started Asante Sana Designs, we wanted to build something that gave back more than it took. A brand that said thank you — to our customers, to our culture, to the artisans whose hands bring our pieces to life, and to Africa herself.
Every time you carry one of our bags, wear one of our hats, or set your table with one of our dining sets, we want you to feel that gratitude. We want you to feel seen, celebrated, and connected to something bigger than a purchase.
Names That Honour Women
You may have noticed that many of our products are named after women. Thandiswa. Anathi. Nomtha. Luyanda. Sandiswa. Mampho.
This is intentional. These are real names — South African names, Xhosa names, names that carry history and meaning. We name our pieces after women because we believe women deserve to be honoured, not just served. When you buy a Thandiswa Clutch Bag, you're not just buying a bag. You're carrying a name. A legacy.
Proudly African. Proudly South African.
Asante Sana Designs is rooted in African identity. Our Ndebele-inspired prints, our earthy colour palettes, our jute textures — everything we create is a love letter to the continent we call home.
We are proudly South African. And we are deeply grateful — for every customer who chooses us, every woman who carries our work, and every moment we get to create something beautiful.
Asante Sana — from the bottom of our hearts. 🌍
